MONTEFIASCONE (Viterbo) – With the success against Perugia, WiPlanet consolidates second place in the standings, keeping alive the chances of aiming for victory in the group and therefore access to the play-offs for promotion to Serie B, which certainly wasn’t the goal at the start of the championship.
After the hard-fought 8-7 victory on June 2nd in Caserta, last Sunday, on the Montefiascone pitch, Perugia was unable to counter the superiority of the Faliscan team, especially in batting, with 12 hits against the 3 of the Umbrians.
Already at the end of the 3rd inning the score was 10 to 0 for WiPlanet, with only 3 Perugian batters reaching base, thanks to Matteo Calamari’s excellent performance on the mound (5 RL, 1K, 1BB, 4BVC).
The pitcher from Lucca drops to the 4th, allowing Perugia to score the 2 points, thanks to a hit, two hits and a defense error, but he recovers well, and then leaves the mound in the 6th to an excellent Andrea Tabarrini, who faces 6 batters and gets 5 strikeouts.
Aprile stood out in attack, with 3 hits in 4 rounds, while both Giuseppe and Andrea Tabarrini and the returning Pacchiarelli, still not at 100% but already productive, got two hits.
One valid each for Carletti (his performance at shortstop was excellent), Pepponi (replaced due to a thigh injury) and Zerbini, the always valid Piggio who returned to the team with an excellent performance at 3rd base.
Now everything will be played in the two games with Viterbo and Brewers, both away. In the first leg, WiPlanet was defeated by both, clearly by Viterbo (but with a yellow-green team still being tested), while the Brewers prevailed only in the extra innings 11 to 8.
Since the Brewers have one more victory than the Falisci, if both win the next matches, with Viterbo and Perugia respectively, it will be the direct clash on the last day that will determine the winner of the group; according to the regulation on ties in the standings, the yellow-greens will have to win with at least 3 points to overtake the Romans.
