Xàtiva Badminton Club Shines at National Competition with Seven Medals

The Xàtiva Badminton Club returns from the Master (N6) Sub 11, Sub 15, Sub 19 and Senior of San Pedro del Pinatar (Murcia) with seven medals, three gold, one silver and three bronze. The Setabe club played a great role in the national competition, despite attending the Murcia event with two important absences, those of Andrea Orquín in the sub-19, who did not travel due to illness, and in senior Julio Martín, who was absent due to injury. .

Setabe athletes dominated in the under-15 category, where four medals were hung, three of them gold. The first came in the women’s singles, which was played directly from the knockout phase, with Martina Molina, who advanced from the round of 32 to the final without dropping a set. In the decisive match for the title, the Setabense beat Rocío Hernández 21-13 and 21-14, winning the gold. Feliu Terol also got the maximum metal in men, after beating Elías Ivars by 21-13, 18-21 and 21-9. Ivars defeated Sebastián Meshack Martínez in the quarterfinals, in a close match that was resolved in the third set. Alexis Piñero also competed for CB Xàtiva, who lost in the round of 16 against Rubén Poblete by 16-21 and 15-21.

The third gold for the Xàtiva club came in the mixed doubles, with Feliu and Martina, who won all the games, including the final against Germán Ripoll and Flavia Bocica, by 21-18 and 21-17. In the men’s doubles, Meshack and Alexis achieved bronze after falling in the semifinal against the number one seeds in the group, the Murcians Germán Hernández and Pablo López, by 15-21, 22-20 and 21-16.

In the senior category, CB Xàtiva won three metals. Mª José Mompó got the silver in the women’s doubles event, which she played alongside Carmen Martínez (CB Las Torres), after losing in the final against Perrine Emilie Langlois and María Isabel Sáez. In men’s doubles, Daniel Messenger He played with Fabio De León, from CB Cartagena, and they got the bronze medal after falling in the semifinals against Juan José Martínez and Salvador Ortiz by 21-17, 19-21 and 21-10. Daniel added another bronze in the mixed doubles, together with Perrine Emilie Langlois (CB Aspe) in the DX30 event.

Two more bronzes in Enguera

Badminton Xàtiva won two more medals, bronze, in the TTR tournament played last Saturday in Enguera for the under-13 and under-17 categories. The club participated with the U-13s Arnau Ballester, Joel Mahiques and Adrià Meseguer, after the last minute loss of Aarón Fasanar.

Arnau got one of the bronzes, in the under-13 individual, after losing in the semifinals against Óscar Cocera by 22-20 and 21-19. Joel and Adrià could not overcome the group stage. In men’s doubles, Adrià and Arnau won the other bronze medal, after losing to Ishaan Bhartiya and Ángel Megías. The Setabeans won the first set, 15-21, but the rivals came back, winning the next two by a double 21-17.

Spain Championship

CB Xàtiva is playing this week, from this Thursday until next Sunday, June 23, the Spanish Championship of Regional National Teams for School Age and Inclusive, in Huelva. The club is present at the national event with three athletes and a coach. Martina Molina and Feliu Terol compete in the under-15 category; Selenia Pla participates in the inclusive one; and coach Javier Alcázar directs the children’s team together with Mª Jesús Almagro.

The Setabense club is also represented in the 4 Nations Para Badminton International, which is held in Glasgow (Scotland) also until June 23, where the German player of the Setabense entity, Thomas Wandschneider, is competing. The athlete will compete in the singles and doubles events, in the latter with his regular partner, Rick Cornell.
