Xàtiva Badminton Club Shines in Spanish Championship: Bronze Medal and Top Placements

The Xàtiva Badminton Club was represented in the Spanish Championship of Autonomous National Teams in School Age and Inclusive 2024, held last week in Huelvawith the participation of three club players: Martina Molina and Feliu Terol called up with the children’s team, and Selenia Pla with the inclusive team. The latter won the bronze medal in the inclusive sectionafter the Valencian team finished in third position. In addition to the three players, The Setabense coach Javier Alcázar was part of the technical team that the federation sent to Huelva.

In the children’s category, Feliu and Martina were decisive in many of the matches played with the Valencian children’s team, which finished in seventh position in the national championship. The children’s team began the competition in the group phase losing to Galicia by 4-3, then beating Navarra by 5-2 and Madrid by 4-3, qualifying for the final phase, where they would compete for the first eight places.

In this final phase, they lost by a tight 4-3 against the team from Castilla y León. A tough defeat for the Valencians, who were relegated to the fight for the 5th to 8th places. They lost against Murcia by 4-2 and in the match for the seventh and eighth place they beat Baleares by 4-1. A match that they started losing in the mixed doubles, but which the Valencian team came back with the participation of the Setabenses in that comeback. Martina Molina and Yoana Ivanova (CB Enguera) won the women’s doubles; Feliu Terol and Germán Ripoll (CB Teulada) won the men’s doubles, and Martina and Feliu closed the comeback by winning the first two singles matches, putting the final score at 4-1.

Fifth place in Parabadminton

The German athlete and member of the Xàtiva club, Thomas Wandschneider, achieved two fifth places in the 4 Nations Para Badminton International 2024, held last week in Glasgow (Scotland)). Thomas was part of the German para-badminton team and competed in the men’s singles and doubles, alongside Rick Cornell.

In the WH-1 singles, the CB Xàtiva player lost in the quarter-finals to Malaysian player Muhammad Ikhwan Ramli by 21-19, 17-21 and 14-21, thus achieving fifth place. In the WH1-WH2 men’s doubles, Thomas and Rick achieved third place in their group, which translates into fifth position in the final ranking of the tournament, after achieving a victory against the French pair and losing to the Korean and Japanese pair.

Silver and bronze for Vicente Ferrer

Badminton Xàtiva was also present at the Top TTR Sub-15, Sub-17, Sub-19, Absolute Popular and Senior tournament, which was held last Saturday in Vitoria and in which the athlete from Sebastián participated Vicente Ferrer, who won two medals, one silver and one bronze.

Ferrer participated in the men’s doubles and mixed doubles B2 events. In the latter, which he played with Esther Segarra, he won the silver medal, after losing in the final to Cristina Irigoyen and Santiago Martínez, number one seeds, by a score of 21-13 and 21-17. In the semi-finals, Vicente and Esther beat Begoña Benito and Carlos Bibian by 21-10 and 21-18. In the men’s doubles A1, Vicente played with Alberto Pascual, winning the bronze, after losing in the semi-finals to Gustavo Hernández and Héctor Tobar by 21-19 and 21-17.
