Meiji University rookies emerge one after another, drawing with Rikkyo University / Tokyo Big 6 University Spring Fresh Tournament

 On the first day of the Spring Fresh Tournament, the match against Rikkyo University took place. Meiji University was the only one of the six universities that did not have any first-year students participating in the spring league. In this match, six first-year students took to the field.

In addition, catcher Shin Takahashi (1st year, Literature, Ogaki Nihon University) started as the designated hitter, and infielder Keita Iso (1st year, Information and Communication, Sakushin Gakuin) took the plate as a pinch hitter, and other promising rookies made their Jingu debut one after another.

The four Meiji University pitchers held the Rikkyo University batting line scoreless. Starting pitcher Toyama Ryotaro (2nd year, Science and Engineering, J. F. Oberlin). He struck out five batters and pitched well, not allowing a single hit, until the 5th inning. From the bottom of the 6th inning, pitcher Hayashi Kengo (1st year, Political Science and Economics, Yamanashi Gakuin), making his first appearance at Jingu, was entrusted with the mound. He allowed a hit from Rikkyo University and faced a crisis with two outs and a runner on third base, but he struck out the batter and got out of the situation. Then, in the bottom of the 8th inning, third pitcher Yamauchi Yuhei (2nd year, Political Science and Economics, Nagasaki Nishi) held the Rikkyo University batting line to three batters, and in the bottom of the 9th inning, pitcher Yuda Tomomasa (1st year, Political Science and Economics, Sendai Ikuei) and catcher Toyoda Kiichi (1st year, Law, Nagasaki Nihon University) came on. The first-year battery closed out the game.

The match against Rikkyo University ended in a draw, but what kind of match will they play in the next match against Waseda University? It will be exciting to see how the match unfolds with a different lineup than in the league match.
