Young Judoka Gregorio Gruosso Wins Bronze at Italian Championships: A Rising Star in the Making

CHICKPEAS FLOUR PIE. For the Kodokan Judo Cecina these are busy days. In Olbia Gregorio Gruosso he achieved third position at the Italian championships in the A2 final category for Beginners B. The third step of the podium and the consequent bronze medal reward him for the work done in the gym, where he trains with the Olympic champion Giulia Quintavalle and Orazio D’Allura.

The young athlete deservedly won acclaim from the public and professionals, but it’s not over yet for him because on the weekend of 8 and 9 June he will be in Jesolo for the A1 final. For this reason he didn’t even have time to celebrate and had already returned to via Palmiro Togliatti, thus avoiding wasting time. Brown belt, born in 2011, he is 13 years old and fights between -46 kilograms. He attends the seventh grade and his teachers describe him as an athlete who moves well and is technical, that is, he grew up assimilating the positions he discovered when he went to kindergarten, given that his father also practiced and for him the world of martial arts it opened immediately. In Sardinia he reached the semi-final, where he lost due to a mistake after three victories. A competitor since 2023, he adds the mornings at school to the continuous commitment on the tatami to build a path in judo, a sport that requires perseverance and concentration, patience and the ability to react when difficulties arise.

«In the semi-final he dominated, then he was distracted for a moment and his opponent won – comments D’Allura – but I am happy because he is committed and has already participated several times in competitions outside the region. There is no doubt that, a few days before the last bell and the commitment in Veneto, he dreams of the black belt. By regulation he will have to wait, because at least 15 years of age are required. In 2026 – confirms the teacher – Gregorio will become Cadet and if he occupies the podium again he will have achieved his goal. Today he is under 15 and must be proud of the qualification achieved for the A1 final, where he will challenge the strongest on the peninsula, at most 15, to further confirm himself and gain experience.”

With him, in Sardinia, there were also Alessandro Lambardi and Zeno Telloli. The latter is from Livorno. Meanwhile, in the gym they are doing the math: already qualified for Jesolo are Hada Poliakov and Nicolas Milana, both born in 2010 and under 15. From next year they will be aspiring black belts and to date they have done well in the various competitions, proving that they can fight on par with everyone. The group has already started training in Marina di Grosseto and in via Togliatti following the schedule prepared by the technicians who will follow them day by day.
