The German trembled in the second set but finally won against Alex De Minaur in three sets.
Supported, as since the 3rd round, by his young French supporter Paul, Alex De Minaur was not unworthy. The Australian obtained a set point (at 6-5 in the 2nd set), led 4-0, then 5-3 in the tie-break. In vain. He then managed to break in the 3rd set to return to 5-4. Before giving in 6-4, 7-6 (7/5), 6-4 to the consistency, power and experience of Alexander Zverev who knew how to impose his law.
That of a player capable of bringing out the best at the opportune moment (4 break points converted out of 5; 15 winning volleys). As on point (39 shots) decisive in the tie-break to lead 6-5. And relying as always on a reliable serve (71% of points scored on his first serve) and a solid game (even if his forehand has, at times, shown signs of weakness).
As in 2021, 2022 and 2023, Zverev is heading to the semi-finals. On the road to a first final in Paris, he will meet the Norwegian Casper Ruud (unlucky finalist of the last two editions) who benefited from Novak Djokovic’s withdrawal and a little respite. In their face-to-face, the German and the Norwegian are back to back, two victories each. Last year, in the semi-finals, Ruud clearly won (6-3, 6-4, 6-0)…
