EMMERICH. Mia Schipper, just 15 years old, from the Budo community Senshu Emmerich has passed the exam for a black belt (1st Dan) in judo. In Düsseldorf, the young high school student had to demonstrate and explain her comprehensive understanding of judo techniques, principles and philosophy in front of a three-person examination committee made up of high-ranking judoka. The exam lasted over five hours, including waiting times, and demanded everything from the young lady.
Due to her combative performance, which enabled her to make it to the German Championships in Leipzig this year, the Emmerich native was given the opportunity to take the 1st Dan exam before she turned 16. Her training partner and black belt holder Frederik Stoffels spent countless hours at Mia’s side on the judo mat at Schulstrasse 8. She had to be able to demonstrate over 60 judo techniques in a masterful manner. This naturally led to grumbling from the BGS Emmerich coaching team, especially because her father and trainer Emile Schipper, trainer Dirk Schaap and trainer Fabian Dargel were working towards a good performance from the young athlete. However, Mia knows how to deal with criticism and use it to her advantage.
Mia was already on the judo mat at the age of five and is now part of the BGS Emmerich coaching team at just 15 years old. Whether it’s special training sessions, courses, competitions or leisure events, the young athlete is always there to support her club with dedication and commitment.
The BGS Emmerich is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and is proud that, with Mia Schipper, a total of six judoka have already achieved their first black belt. However, the 1st Dan is not the end, but rather the beginning of a new chapter in her judo journey. As a black belt holder, she now takes on the responsibility of passing on her knowledge and experience to the next generation of judoka and promoting the values of respect, courtesy and fairness that characterize judo. The Budo community Senshu Emmerich is proud of its youngest black belt holder.
