Akiyama Settimo: Sending Four Judokas to the 2024 Paris Olympics

It’s official. Andrea Carlino judoka of the -60kg category, will go to the 2024 Paris Olympics. He is the fourth judoka from Settimo to get his ticket to the 33rd edition of the Summer Olympic Games.

Akiyama Settimo: Pug at the Olympics

Andrea Carlino, born in 1997 and living in Castiglione, took advantage of the “allocated quota” following the refusal of the Russian judo team to participate with only four athletes of the twelve qualified for the Games.

And so a spot was freed up in the 60 kg category and Carlino, thanks to the placings obtained in the Olympic race, had the highest score among those excluded and therefore benefited from this Olympic quota. The bronze medal obtained in the last Grand Slam in Astana was decisive in this case and was worth 500 points by itself.

Great satisfaction at Akiyama’s home in Settimo where this news arrived unexpectedly.

The other three athletes ready to go

Andrea Carlino will be the fourth judoka from the Settimese club to go to the Paris Olympics: in addition to him there will be Manuel Lombardo nei kg 73, Veronica Toniolo nei kg 57 and Matthew Piras in the 66 kg category, all athletes who have trained with the Toniolo masters since they were children.

The Akiyama company that trained the Rio 2016 Olympic Champion Fabio Basilethe two hundredth gold medal of Italian sport, has brought eight athletes who grew up in the shadow of the Mole to the last three Olympic editions, Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024. A great record.
