Aleix Espargaro retires from the Dutch Grand Prix

MADRID, 30 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Spanish rider Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia) will not compete in Sunday’s MotoGP race of the Dutch Grand Prix, the eighth round of the World Championship, in order to try to recover from the simple fracture of the fifth metacarpal of his right hand after his hard fall in the sprint race on Saturday.

“Aprilia Racing has confirmed that Aleix Espargaro has decided to retire from the Motul TT Assen following a heavy crash in the closing stages of Saturday’s Tissot Sprint,” the team said in a statement.

Before the sprint, the Granollers rider had already suffered a heavy blow during Friday’s practice. Now, he will focus on recovering from the simple fracture he suffered in the fifth metacarpal of his right hand before facing next weekend’s Grand Prix at Sachsenring.

Italian wildcard Lorenzo Savadori will also not be taking part in the race in Assen, having been declared unfit after being diagnosed with small fractures in his lumbar vertebrae.
