Alexander Zverev and Laura Siegemund to Form German Mixed Pairing for Olympics in Paris

Olympic singles champion Alexander Zverev and doubles specialist Laura Siegemund will form the German mixed pairing at the Olympic tennis competition in Paris. This was confirmed by the German Tennis Association.

Siegemund and Zverev led the German tennis team to victory in the United Cup in Australia at the beginning of the year with strong performances in the mixed doubles. Siegemund recently expressed his dissatisfaction at Wimbledon that the line-up had not yet been decided.

Three-time Grand Slam tournament winner Angelique Kerber had also expressed interest in playing mixed doubles with Zverev. However, the top German player had already stated that this was most likely not an option because they would not be able to get into the field based on their ranking positions.

Zverev will therefore not compete in the doubles at the Summer Games. The fourth-ranked player in the world had announced that he wanted to hunt for medals in two disciplines. According to the DTB, the Olympic doubles now consist of the well-rehearsed Tim Pütz and Kevin Krawietz as well as Jan-Lennard Struff and Dominik Koepfer, who had to miss Wimbledon due to a foot injury.

In the women’s singles, Kerber and Siegemund, who had already announced their joint appearance, will be joined by Tatjana Maria and Tamara Korpatsch. The Olympic tennis competition will be held at the Stade Roland Garros, where the French Open is also generally played, from July 27 to August 4.
