Alvaro Morata Set to Join AC Milan in Multi-Year Deal

Alvaro Morata’s move from Atletico Madrid to Milan is now effectively all but a done deal, as the player and the Rossoneri have reportedly agreed upon the financial details of his new contract in San Siro.

Multiple outlets in Italy are reporting that Morata will sign a four-year deal in Milan with the option of an additional 12 months. If the extension is activated, he will be 36 years of age by the time his deal expires.

Calciomercato.com details that Morata is expected to take home an annual salary of €5.5m, a figure which includes bonuses.

It has also been revealed that Milan will pay the €13m release clause in the Spain captain’s current Atleti deal. There had been suggestions that the Rossoneri could have negotiated an alternative fee, which would have likely been higher than €13m, but spread over several instalments.

Morata has given his total approval to the move, and is not expecting many further delays.

According to Monday evening’s reports, Morata aims to speak directly with Atletico President Enrique Cerezoideally on Tuesday, to inform him of his decision in-person.

Milan would also like to inform Atletico of their intention to activate Morata’s release clause before making any formal transfer as a matter of courtesy.

The player himself will undergo his medical in Madrid later this week, before he sets off for his post-EURO 2024 holiday. That is expected to take place either on Wednesday or Thursday.

If all goes to plan, he could be in line to make his Milan debut in a pre-season friendly against Monza in the Berlusconi Trophy match on August 13.
