This time, it’s done! Amélie Cordeau, 18, from the 1st Archery Company of Annemasse, is one of the three French archers selected for the Paris Olympic Games, alongside Lisa Barbelin (24, leader of the women’s trio competing in her second Olympic Games) and Caroline Lopez (21).
On Friday, June 28, the French Archery Federation (FFTA) confirmed the list of selected candidates from the CNOSF (French National Olympic and Sports Committee), which had met the day before to finalize the names of several French candidates selected for Paris 2024.
An intense program
At the beginning of the year, Le Messager had contacted Amélie, determined to obtain her selection. Thus, for a year, she has been training intensely at the Insep (National Institute of Sport) in Paris, within the French team. She had also explained: “This year they decided to interrupt all our classes, I was supposed to take my baccalaureate but it will be next year.” During this year 2024, she had to line up for all the international competitions in order to get her ticket to the Games. The selection of the three French archers was established on the basis of all the results of the season. Moreover, her father, Richard Cordeau, owner of a store specializing in the field, never stopped believing in it and as early as January, he had declared: ” She’s going to go to Paris, I’m sure of it. » If this first objective is achieved, he still has to obtain good results during the Olympic competition.
Good chances per team
All three archers achieved excellent results in 2023 and 2024, which bodes well for the team competition. “They won team gold at the European Championships in Essen last May, then silver at the World Cup held in Antalya from June 17 to 23. Let’s remember that the French women’s team shone throughout the 2023 season by climbing to second place on the podium at the World Championships and the European Games.”communicates the FFTA.
The Games calendar
Individually, the ranking events will take place on Thursday July 25, even before the opening ceremony of the Games. Hopefully this frees Amélie Cordeau to be able to participate in the ceremony which takes place the next day.
Sunday July 28it’s time for the Women’s team competition which takes place over one day. The qualifiers start at 9:30 a.m. This is THE big event for the women’s trio.
Tuesday July 30, Wednesday July 31 and Thursday August 1eliminations of the individual event.
Friday August 2nda team event, mixed, over a single day. One man and one woman will represent France.
Saturday August 3return to the Women’s individual event, from the 1/8 to the final, from 9:30 a.m. The final for the gold medal will begin at 2:46 p.m., precisely.
The archery competition takes place on the Esplanade des Invalides.
