Andy Murray Plans to Compete in Doubles at Wimbledon Following Back Surgery

The after-effects of his back surgery mean that the 37-year-old cannot compete. However, Murray wants to play doubles alongside his brother Jamie.

“Unfortunately, despite working incredibly hard on his recovery since his surgery just over a week ago, Andy has made the very difficult decision not to play singles this year,” Murray’s management said in a statement.

Instead of the two-time Olympic champion and crowd favorite, Belgian David Goffin will now play the first round duel with Czech Tomas Machac. Murray recently expressed his great desire to make one last appearance at the grass court event before retiring: “It’s complicated and it’s made even more complicated by the fact that I want to play at Wimbledon again.”
