Anger Erupts in German Camp After Controversial Referee Decision

Anger erupted in the German camp towards the referee Anthony Taylor. The referee from England was reportedly attacked by the assistant coach Sandro Wagner in the dressing room.

Spain vs Germany presented at MHPArena in the quarter-finals of the 2024 European Cup, Friday (5/7/2024) evening WIB. The Matador team led 1-0 through Dani Olmo in the 51st minute.

Just as the game looked to be over, Florian Wirtz equalized to 1-1 in the 89th minute. The match continued into 2×15 minutes of extra time.

In the 106th minute, Jamal Musiala fired a shot. The ball then hit Cucurella’s hand in the penalty box. Anthony Taylor did not consider the incident as a penalty that Germany deserved.

In the process, Germany lost 1-2. As the match approached a penalty shootout, Mikel Merino scored in the 119th minute.

According to German media outlet Bild, Sandro Wagner, Julian Nagelsmann’s assistant, was seen storming Taylor’s dressing room after the match. Wagner was also said to have insulted the referee loudly.

A source close to Anthony Taylor denied the report. The source said there was a conversation between Anthony Taylor and Wagner, but there was no swearing or aggressive behavior.

Anthony Taylor also left the stadium about an hour after the match. He left in a black Mercedes.
