Archery Team Falls Just Short of Division 2 Promotion in Regional Finals

The archery company was in Burgundy to compete in the regional finals to open the doors to promotion to division 2. It only missed a hair’s breadth to claim better.

The archers fought well in Burgundy but missed promotion to D2 by exactly one millimeter, a hair measured with a magnifying glass. A look back at the operations. “We started this competition in the first group match against the Provençaux d’Ollioules, by shooting good arrows to win in 3 sets (6 to 0). This victory gives us the right to play the promotion match (for the 3rd consecutive year), this time against Paris XIII USMT, second in the qualifying round” indicates the president Eddy Gobbato.

Despite the first two volleys very well executed by Pamiers, Paris shoots extraordinarily well and quickly leads 4 to 0. “I told myself that it will be a disappointment once again, but our archers increase their level of performance again to come back to level 4 to 4” points out Eddy. Incredible turnaround.

Eddy continues: “I don’t want to see the barrage volley and I turn towards the official stand. A friend points out the impacts of the arrows with her binoculars. A 6 for Paris at the start which leaves even more hope, I tell myself it’s for now, our archers react with two nice 9s. Paris in a final burst of pride plants 10 magnificent volleys and goes to 26. We have one arrow left to shoot, it flies away, that makes 27, it’s won. Then I turn towards Valentin our coach, who gives me a little pout of the head and tells me it’s going to be close (with the binoculars, we can’t judge the cord). Then the interminable wait for the result ends with the cries of the Parisians who win the arrow closest to the center, measured one millimeter from ours. I go towards the archers, I congratulate them for having performed so well and for not giving up for the following classification matches.”

“In Manduel, Fontainebleau and Grenoble on July 7”

“The Parisians come to greet us and compliment us for this match which will undoubtedly remain the most challenging I have ever seen at this level. Behind them, someone taps me on the shoulder, the President of the League and the Federation come to greet me for this great team, I thank them but I say to myself, it’s not possible, luck doesn’t want to smile on us. Valentin tells me, it’s not even a lack of luck, it’s bad luck. We have to remobilize and even if the other 3 matches remain anecdotal, we beat Marseille 6 to 2, we lose in the play-off round by 1 point against favorites who have also fallen, Neuilly-sur-Marne (with 2 former archers from the French Olympic team) and we finish by winning 6 to 0 against the Normans of Notre-Dame-de-Gravenchon. Summary of the day, we finish 11th. I can only thank this team with Valentin our new coach, Emmanuel the leader, Philippe the old one, Ewen the young fighter and special mention to Vincent exceptional on the matches. Now we will have to turn the page and build the new season, without forgetting the next individual deadlines.”

Make way for the weekend of July 7 at 3 different sites in Fontainebleau, Manduel, then in Grenoble for the French “Elite Campaign” championships.
