Francisco Comeseña has just achieved a triumph as unexpected as it is historic. The Argentine, who is ranked 122 in the ATP rankings and played his first match in the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament, beat Andrey Rublev (6th seed) in four sets to advance to the second round at Wimbledon.

With a score of 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 and 7-6 in two hours and 58 minutes of play, the native of Mar del Plata achieved a key victory in his sporting career, in which he has a long history in Challenger tournaments. Comesaña surprised Rublev from the start, winning the first set 6-4 thanks to an impeccable serve and strategic play. In the second set, the Russian equalized the score at 7-5, taking advantage of his ability to break the Argentine’s serve, who managed to save five set points against him.

However, Comesaña was not far behind, raising his level in the third set to impose the game with his forehand from the baseline and drop shots that led him to a convincing 6-2 after breaking Rublev’s serve on two occasions.
