Panama City, Jul 11 (EFE).- Panamanian Olympic boxer Atheyna Bylon announced that she will travel to Portugal this Saturday, where she will attend a training camp to finalize her preparation for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, which will take place from July 26 to August 11.
“I’m leaving for Portugal on Saturday for a preparation camp, and then I’ll travel to the Olympic village,” Bylon, who competes in the -75 kilogram category and has two world medals to his name (Ceju 2014-New Delhi 2023), told the EFE Agency.
The 35-year-old fighter made it clear that she is arriving in Paris in her “best physical condition” and that she has her sights set on winning an Olympic medal for her country.
“Winning an (Olympic) medal for Panama has been my focus since I started the Olympic cycle,” said the boxer, who will compete in her third Olympic Games (Rio 2016-Tokyo 2020).
Although she does not know who her first opponent will be, who must be chosen from the draw prior to the event that will take place on July 27, Bylon admits that she is eager to go out and compete in her first fight, scheduled for July 31.
The boxer, who shares her passion for this sport with her police work, successfully completed an Olympic boxing tournament in Brazil, where she was training, weeks ago, winning all three fights she fought.
The Panamanian delegation is made up, after Alonso Edward declined, of seven athletes for Paris 2024: Gianna Woodruff (Athletics 400 meters hurdles), Hillary Heron (Artistic gymnastics), Franklin Archibold (Road cycling), Emily Santos and Tyler Christianson (Swimming), Atheyna Bylon (Boxing) and Kristine Jiménez (Judo).
