The Wimbledon doubles tournament ends for Alexander Erler and Lucas Miedler in the first round.
The Austrian duo had to admit defeat to the British-New Zealand team Neal Skupski/Michael Venus in the tie-break 7:6(5), 3:6, 6:7(5).
The duel ends very closely: While a single break decides the second set, neither side has to give up a service game in the deciding round.
At 6:6 in the third set, Erler/Miedler miss a break and match point, the tie-break only remains open until 4:5. The opponents’ third match point lands.
The ninth-seeded duo will now face Australians Rinky Hijikata/John Peers, who knocked the Murray brothers out of the tournament early with a two-set win.
