Bayer Leverkusen Considering Free Transfer Move for Mats Hummels

As reported by kicker (via Sky Germany), Bayer Leverkusen are discussing the possibility of signing Mats Hummels on a free transfer.

It had previously been confirmed that Hummels and Borussia Dortmund would both go their separate ways this summer. Despite reports suggesting that the 35-year-old would remain at the Westfalenstadion should Edin Terzić depart the club, Hummels has not been offered a new deal.

This means that the defender is free to join any club this summer, sparking interest from the Bundesliga champions. Regardless, Leverkusen are not completely convinced by Hummels due to his age.

Die Werkself are on the hunt for a replacement for Jonathan Tah, who appears to be Bayern Munich-bound. Leverkusen had previously shown interest in Waldemar Anton, but the former Stuttgart defender elected to sign for Dortmund, ironically becoming the replacement for Hummels.

Therefore, Leverkusen are still discussing their options, having also recently been priced out of a deal for Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori.

Nevertheless, it appears as though Hummels is more likely to make a move away from Germany this summer, with RCD Mallorca still dreaming of signing the 35-year-old.
