An official communiqué recently followed. Alejo Sarco has been “removed” from Velez Sarsfield’s professional squad, the Argentine first division club announced, adding that the club’s decision was due to “the player’s refusal” to extend his contract, which expires on December 31, 2024, for another two years. Velez Sarsfield “received only delays and excuses” before the player, his family and his agent recently expressed their refusal. The players’ side, as Velez Sarsfield’s vice president Augusto Costa explained in an interview with the local media Saturday Velezmade the club “an offer from a European club” – an offer “for a ridiculous amount that was not acceptable under any circumstances”. It was “not a deal for the club, but an imposition on the part of the player, his agent and his family”. Although the club made it clear that it wanted to extend the attacker’s contract, the family ended the negotiations.

In Leverkusen, Sarco would initially have the status of a highly capable, promising player who would be gradually introduced. He would certainly need time to get used to things. The centre-forward is still at the very beginning of his career and would also be leaving his home country for the first time.
