With the final evening of the club championships, Badminton Club Hoevelaken concluded an extremely successful season. For example, Men-1 and the spring competition team became champions, Mixed Team-1 narrowly missed the championship and three youth teams participated in the competition again after an absence of several years.
Like every year, the season at BCH continues until the last weekend of June. This first month of summer was used to organize the club championships, culminating in the final evening on Friday, June 28. Teammates are then opponents for a while, and friends are not friends in their mutual matches for a while. Fortunately, everything was quickly restored to good order afterwards. The final evening was quite long, which means that there were exciting matches, some of which resulted in three-setters. In the mixed final the win went to Brenda and Bart. In the women’s doubles, Tamara and Lideke won. In the men’s doubles against Bart and Stan, Kees and Jeffry really had to go to the extreme to be able to call themselves champions. There was hardly any time for rest, because Bart and Jeffry had to prepare for the climax of the evening. In between, Tamara was crowned tournament queen by winning the women’s singles final against Dorien. With Roy’s absence, his brother Bart was the slight favorite for the men’s singles title, but in Jeffry he had a formidable opponent. Despite the fact that both were still tired from their previous final match, a high-level match developed, with long rallies that demanded the utmost from both players. Ultimately, after a thrilling match, Jeffry somewhat surprisingly won the match with two scores of 21-19.
After the event, the prize-giving ceremony took place in sports café de Slag, and most members said goodbye to each other around midnight. For BCH, the season is over; see you in August.
