The City of Beauharnois has a new baseball field at Bissonnette Park, after several major renovations. It will officially be named after Al-Flemming, nicknamed the Jackie Robinson of Beauharnois, a player-coach who led the city’s baseball team in the late 1940s.

Representing an investment of $1.8 million, this field was officially inaugurated on July 3 in the presence mainly of elected officials, Municipality teams, as well as members of the Beauharnois Minor Baseball Association.

“I am convinced that this renovated field will become an essential gathering place for our young athletes, their families and all baseball fans,” said Francis Laberge, city councillor and pro-mayor at the inauguration. “It embodies our desire to promote sports, well-being and social cohesion within our city.”

Beauharnois informs that certain adjustments remain “to be completed and will be in the coming weeks.”
A commemorative plaque providing more information about Al Flemming and his involvement will “also be installed near the field soon,” the City added.

The work carried out
•Reconstruction of the field, infield, mound and home plate area;
•Replacement of the bleacher structures, players’ benches and scorers;
•Installation of new fences and a ball stop to ensure the safety of players and spectators;
•Added foul poles for a better gaming experience;
•Repair of access paths to the site to facilitate access for all;
•The sports lighting fixtures were replaced with LED technology, while reusing existing lamp posts and optimizing the illuminated area of the field.
