There’s also the way he learns things, so fast, and his attitude. He learns everything so fast, and he keeps doing it. That’s why I think he’s grown so fast.

We forget sometimes how young he is. At the end of last year I was injured and I couldn’t see him live on the tour, but when I did in the Davis Cup, I was amazed. We all looked at each other on the team and wondered if what we were seeing was real. He didn’t miss a ball. He hit with tremendous power. The confidence he has built is crazy. He keeps getting better with the work he does with his coaches. I think that’s Jannik’s secret, that he’s so hungry to get better. And humility. It’s special. Facing him, personally, gives me a lot of energy to match his level. For me, it’s very useful.
