The squad planning of basketball Bundesliga club BG Göttingen for the 2024/25 season is in the final phase. The southern Lower Saxony team has signed combo guard Jarred Godfrey.

Göttingen – The 23-year-old American is moving from Swedish runner-up Boras Basket to the university town on the Leine and has been given a one-year contract. He is the sixth new addition to the team of coach Olivier Foucart, who now wants to sign another player.

Will it be Jimmy Boeheim, who most recently played for BBL relegated team Tigers Tübingen (HNA reported)?

First of all, BG has secured the services of Jared Godfrey. Foucart actually wanted to get Ibrahim Watson-Boye from Boras Basket (Sweden’s first division). But the US player was too expensive for BG – so the Violets’ coach concentrated on Godfrey. Watson-Boye will play for Bamberg Baskets next season and then face his former teammate Godfrey against BG.

“Jarred had a very successful rookie season in Sweden, where he showed that he is a versatile scorer with many skills. His ability to score, pass the ball and rebound make him very interesting and helpful for our team. His size and leadership qualities allow him to play at all three guard positions,” says BG head coach Olivier Foucart. “With his ambition and winning mentality, Jarred is ready to take the next step. We look forward to having him at our club.”

Godfrey’s first professional stop was Boras in Sweden last season. From the same club, former Violet Bodie Hume (now going to Bonn to join former BG coach Roel Moors) moved to Göttingen last summer. The BG newcomer played 43 league games for the Scandinavians, in which he was on the court for around 26 minutes per game. The US guard averaged 18.6 points (37 percent three-point hit rate), got 4.1 rebounds and gave 3.3 assists per game. The 23-year-old and his team reached the playoff final of the “Basketligan” and were defeated by the Norrkoping Dolphins in five games.

After graduating from high school in his hometown of Tyrone (US state of Georgia), Godfrey decided to study at Purdue University Fort Wayne (US state of Indiana) in the summer of 2018. The new BGer played a total of 153 times for the Fort Wayne Mastodons until 2023. In his final year of college, the guard played around 33 minutes per game, in which he averaged 17.8 points (34 percent three-point shooting rate), grabbed 5.3 rebounds and gave 3.7 assists.

Jimmy Boeheim (26, 2.03 m) is in the hot seat at BG. Negotiations are underway. “But the contract hasn’t been signed yet,” says Foucart, who is now on a family vacation in the South of France. Foucart hopes that the deal with Boeheim will be finalized early next week.

Boeheim was one of the top performers in Tübingen. He was injured in the last Bundesliga games and the Tigers were no longer winning. On February 11, Boeheim was the best scorer with 13 points in Tübingen’s 70:101 defeat in the S-Arena.
