BG Göttingen Signs Jarred Godfrey from Swedish Club for Upcoming Basketball Bundesliga Season

Göttingen. Basketball Bundesliga club BG Göttingen has announced its next new signing for the coming season. Jarred Godfrey comes from Swedish runner-up Boras Basket and has signed a one-year contract.

The 23-year-old American is a combo guard. “Jarred had a very successful rookie season in Sweden, where he showed that he is a versatile scorer with many skills. His ability to score, pass the ball and rebound make him very interesting and helpful for our team. His size and leadership qualities allow him to play in all three guard positions,” says BG coach Olivier Foucart about the 1.96 meter tall guard. “Thanks to his ambition and winning mentality, Jarred is ready to take the next step. We look forward to having him at our club.”

Interesting fact: The 23-year-old is moving from the Swedish club that Bodie Hume came to Göttingen from a year ago. Hume is now moving on to Bonn. For Godfrey, it was his first professional season in Sweden. He played 43 league games for Boras. He was on the field for an average of 26 minutes per game and scored 18.6 points, got 4.1 rebounds and gave 3.3 assists.

His three-point percentage of 37 percent was also remarkable. The 23-year-old made it to the final of the playoffs with Boras. There, he and his club were defeated by the Norrkoping Dolphins in a thrilling series after five games.

Jarred Godfrey played 153 games in college

Godfrey is from the US state of Georgia. He graduated from high school in his hometown of Tyrone and then began studying at Purdue University Fort Wayne in 2018. He played a total of 153 games for the Fort Wayne Mastodons until 2023. In his final year of college, he played 33 minutes per game, averaged 17.8 points (with a three-point percentage of 34 percent), got 5.3 rebounds and gave 3.7 assists.

The Violets are now on the home stretch in squad planning. In addition to Godfrey, the following players are under contract for the coming season: Mathis Mönninghoff, Zach Ensminger, Janis Jünemann, Collin Welp, Deion Hammond, Noah Churchill Sorensen, Marijn Ververs and Demajeo Wiggins.
