Blue Jays get revenge with 5-4 win over Tigers

The day after a crushing 7-3 loss to the Detroit Tigers, the Toronto Blue Jays had the chance to get their revenge on Sunday at the Rogers Centre.

And that’s what they managed to do, winning by a score of 5 to 4. John Schneider’s men thus avoided being swept away in their three-game series against the Michigan team.

Nevertheless, the Queen City club’s 44th win of the season was obtained with difficulty. After taking a 3-0 lead on two bombs by George Springer in the first and third innings, the visitors stepped on the gas to take a 4-3 lead in the fifth inning, when Justyn-Henry Malloy hit a grand slam.

However, a single by Spencer Horwitz a few moments later tied the score. It was finally Ernie Clement, in the sixth inning, who allowed the only Canadian club in major baseball to escape with the victory.

The Jays’ attack woke up on Sunday, managing to send the ball to safety 11 times. As a reminder, Toronto had only slammed six on Saturday and seven on Friday.

With a 44-54 record, the Blue Jays remain in fifth and final place in the American League East. They will begin a three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday.
