Boca Juniors Secures Second Signing in Winter Transfer Market: Tomás Belmonte Officially Presented

After a negotiation that included back and forth, Boca can finally say that it has secured its second signing in this winter transfer market. Midfielder Tomás Belmonte, who came from Lanús and came from Toluca in Mexico, successfully passed the medical examination and was presented as a new signing this Monday at La Bombonera, accompanied by Juan Román Riquelme, president of the club.

The midfielder from the 98 category was an old dream of the Xeneize leadership, who had already sounded him out when he took over the Granate’s midfield from his debut in the First Division until his departure to the North American continent. After contacting him during his vacation in Argentina, as confirmed by the player himself, the Xeneize accelerated to polish the details that were missing with the Mexican team. Finally, the transfer was sealed for an amount close to four million dollars for 50 percent of his pass.

It was Riquelme who kicked off the reception for the footballer: “I was told that your old man was excited, so it’s very nice for us. I hope you can enjoy it very much and I hope you bring us lots of joy.”

“My family was excited that I was coming back to the country. I am grateful to the management for looking for me and giving me support,” Toto said, adding: “The demands cannot be lacking. We have a lot of responsibility. I am at a very good age for my career. I feel very good and eager to start tomorrow, to give my best for the team.”

Belmonte’s excitement at being Boca’s number 5 and playing at La Bombonera

The central midfielder will defend the position that was once guarded by Blas Armando Giunta and Mauricio Serna, among others. This point in particular did not go unnoticed and Belmonte was in charge of highlighting it: “Wearing the Boca jersey is a great pride. I got to play with Lanús and the fans really feel it.”

Previously, upon his arrival in the country, Belmonte was in charge of raising expectations for his arrival at the “biggest club in the country”, according to what he stated as soon as he landed at Ezeiza Airport.

He also expanded on the feelings he feels about wearing the blue and gold shirt: “It’s a great pride. When I was at Lanús there was also a very interesting approach. Now that I’ve come to Toluca, it’s just right and I’m very happy that a club like Boca is interested in me. I’m going to give my best, continue working with humility and try to contribute my best to the team.”

Martegani and Galoppo, the other midfielders that Boca wants to buy

Although the board headed by Juan Román Riquelme completed the purchases of the Chilean Gary Medel and Toto himself, they began to negotiate for other midfielders who broke through in Argentine football. One of them is Agustín Martegani, the midfielder who recently returned to San Lorenzo from his loan at Salernitana in Italy, where he was unable to establish himself or get the minutes he wanted.

After consulting the conditions, Boca made a formal offer on the tables of Bajo Flores of 2.5 million dollars for 80 percent of his transfer. Without closing the door to a negotiation, the Cyclone answered that they prefer 4 million in the US currency for that same percentage of the transfer.

Although the differences do not seem far away and both parties are optimistic, Talleres de Córdoba appeared in the bidding to take the player born in Rojas. La T proposed the possibility of making a swap with Nahuel Bustos, very similar to the proposal of Estudiantes weeks ago with Mauro Méndez.

The other is Giuliano Galoppo, a former Banfield player and current Sao Paulo player from Brazil. The Xeneize made a formal offer of 3 million dollars to buy half of his transfer and remain optimistic that the talks will come to fruition. In any case, contractual details still need to be finalised.
