Brandenburg likes to advertise itself as a sports state. This is backed up by figures: 24 athletes from Brandenburg have so far received one of the coveted tickets from the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) for the Summer Olympics, which will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024.

On Wednesday (July 3) alone, ten Brandenburgers were named to Team Germany in the fourth round of nominations – including Maxi Klötzer. The flyweight boxer competes for the Chemnitz Boxing Club, but trains at the Olympic Training Center in Frankfurt (Oder).

The largest group in terms of numbers are the cyclists from Cottbus, who alone represent half a dozen athletes. Lea Sophie Friedrich, Pauline Grabosch and Emma Hinze are given a chance of gold in the team sprint. Roger Kluge, who was born in Eisenhüttenstadt, also wants to give it another go at the age of 38.

These athletes from Brandenburg will be taking part in the 2024 Olympics in Paris (as of July 3):

Boxes: Maxi Klötzer (Frankfurt (Oder))

Modern Pentathlon: Marvin Dogue, Fabian Liebig (both Potsdam)

On Friday (July 5), more Brandenburgers could be nominated for the Summer Games in the fifth and final round of nominations. At the last Summer Games in Tokyo in 2021, Team Brandenburg provided 24 athletes. After the penultimate round of nominations, a total of 382 athletes have been officially nominated for Team Germany for Paris.

“There are hopes of a medal in Brandenburg,” says Brandenburg’s Minister of Sport Steffen Freiberg: “With the Olympic training centers, the state offers excellent opportunities for competitive athletes. And we support young athletes while they are still at school through special sports classes. This is paying off, as shown by the nominations for the German team for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.”
