Breaking Records: Italy’s Judo Team Gears Up for Historic Performance at Paris 2024 Olympics

The bar of the Italian judo record is raised once again: with the qualification of Andrea Carlino, judoka in the 60 kg category, Italy reaches 13 individual passes out of 14 weight categories and is preparing to make history at the Paris 2024 Games.

Andrea Carlino, a 27-year-old from Turin, is the fourth judoka from Akiyama di Settimo Torinese to qualify for the Olympics. His qualification not only highlights his individual talent, but also the excellence of the Akiyama club, which continues to produce top-level athletes capable of competing on the international stage.

Carlino has obtained his place at the 2024 Paris Olympics thanks to the ‘Reallocated Direct Quota’, as confirmed by the IJF (International Judo Federation) to the president of Coni, Giovanni Malagò. The Italian National Olympic Committee has subsequently approved and transmitted the
news to Fijlkam, allowing Carlino to compete in the 60 kg.

Currently ranked thirty-second in the Olympic Ranking, Carlino has benefited from the exclusion of Russian athletes. This decision was taken by the IOC Executive Committee, which assessed the effective neutrality of each athlete in relation to the conflict in Ukraine. This same process has

Originally, 17 Russian athletes had qualified for the Olympics in judo, reduced to 12 by excluding doubles in the same category. However, only 4 of them were cleared to participate, a proposal that was rejected by Russia, thus paving the way for reallocations, a formula different from the continental quota.
