Burel and Humbert withdraw from Wimbledon doubles

No rehearsal before the Olympic Games for the French in doubles. Clara Burel and Ugo Humbert withdrew from the doubles tournaments at Wimbledon on Thursday due to injury.

Burel, selected to play women’s doubles at the Olympics, was due to play the English tournament as a pair with Brazilian Camila Osorio. But the French player withdrew due to an “abdominal injury”, the tournament organisers announced. On Wednesday, she was beaten in three sets in singles (6-3, 5-7, 6-3) by British Sonay Kartal (298th).

For his part, Humbert announced that he was suffering from “pain in his right hip”, according to the organisation. The French No. 1 was due to team up at Wimbledon with his partner Arthur Fils, with whom he will participate in the Olympic Games (July 26-August 11). The Frenchman, who beat the Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp (97th) in three sets (7-6) on Wednesday [9]6-1, 6-3), did not mention any pain when leaving the court. He must face the American Brandon Nakashima (65th) on Friday, to try to equal his best run in a Grand Slam, the round of 16.
