Canada’s Quest for Quarter-Final Victory Against Venezuela in Copa América

Follow the match between Canada and Venezuela in the quarter-finals of the Copa América on Friday from 9 p.m. with RDS and RDS.ca.

The only North American team still in the tournament, Canada achieved its goal of getting out of its group, thanks to a savage and aggressive defense, and also, it must be said, with the help of red cards from the opposing teams. Now that they are in the quarterfinals against Venezuela, the players want more.

“We’re happy to have surprised people, but we want more,” said Alistair Johnston. “We can offer more, especially up front. We’re going to reach that summit together.”

“I signed Maxime Crépeau when I was coaching the Montreal Impact. He was 18 years old. We met up again recently. He has matured a lot over the years,” said coach Jesse Marsch. “I pushed him out of his comfort zone, in the way he plays, defends and communicates. He now sees that he is being rewarded for his efforts.”

Crépeau is the goalkeeper who made the most saves in the group stage, with 14. But it’s not just his saves that are saving his team. “The defense was caught off guard late in the game against Chile,” Johnston explained. “He took a great initiative to come to our rescue and make the save.”

In other news, Tajon Buchanan was released from the hospital and joined his teammates at the hotel on Thursday. He will remain in the team’s entourage for the remainder of the tournament. We want to keep his strong personality and win the duel against Venezuela for him.
