Caroline Garcia loses in the second round at Wimbledon against Bernarda Pera

The struggles continue for Caroline Garcia. She, who has not been in the second week of a Grand Slam since the 2023 Australian Open, once again stops prematurely at Wimbledon, this time against the 97th in the world, Bernarda Pera (6-3, 3-6, 4-6). In a tight match where no player really took the upper hand, the Frenchwoman cracked in the last set.

The irregularity cost him dearly

Caroline Garcia had started her match well, two days after eliminating Anna Blinkova in the first round (6-4, 7-5), by winning the first set (6-3). As usual, the Frenchwoman hurt her opponent with her power and aggression. While she seemed to have the American under control, Garcia fell back into her old ways in the second set (6-3, 3-6).

By accumulating unforced errors (18), the number 23 seed lost the thread of the match. Caroline Garcia was unable to break her opponent in the last two sets, unlike the American, twice. The two match points saved, on her serve, at 5-3 in the last set were not enough to reverse the trend. Caroline Garcia bows out before the third round of a Grand Slam for the third time this season.

For her part, Bernarda Pera will face Jelena Ostapenko, for her first qualification for the third round of Wimbledon.
