Carsten Sostmeier: “The greatest art is to recognize when everything has been said”

Carsten Sostmeier (64) has been commentating on equestrian sports for ARD since 1991, this time again at the Olympic Games. He rode in competitions himself until he was 22 years old. He works as a commentator, presenter and announcer at equestrian tournaments.

TIME ONLINE: Mr. Sostmeier, you are the voice of equestrian sports on ARD. Please tell us something about horses!

Carsten Sostmeier: Of course, let’s get going.

TIME ONLINE: You became known for iconic lines like: “Powerful, spirited, like the hooves of Satchmo drumming in time on the ground here, with an elegance that is his, but at the same time only wants to gently caress the sand.” Where do you get these lyrics from?
