Castilla y León Basketball Federation Restructures Competitions: Three Soria Teams Move Up to First Division

The restructuring carried out by the Castilla y León Basketball Federation in the competitions it organises will mean that three men’s teams from the Soria Basketball Club (one junior, one cadet and one children’s) will play next season in Group A2 of the First Division Regional Championship, from which they can compete for the regional title and for a ticket to the Spanish Club Championship. Last season, the juniors of CSB Caja Rural de Soria, the cadets of CSB Caja Rural de Soria A and the children’s teams of CSB Codesian A competed in the Second Division Regional Championship, in which they could only aspire to win the Castilla y León Cup. The conquest of this title by its children’s team helped CSB to occupy third place in the ranking that has determined who plays in the highest category.

The different First Division Regional Championships had ten teams and now there will be six that play in Group A1 and another six that will measure their strength in Group A2, that of the Club Soria Baloncesto, in which Tizona de Burgos and Reino de León have also been placed and which will be completed with a squad from the club qualifying round and with the two that pass the qualifying round scheduled for the month of September. In Group A1 the best youth teams in the region will compete: Real Valladolid, San Pablo Burgos, Baloncesto La Flecha from Valladolid, Colegio Leonés, Zunder Maristas from Palencia and Tormes from Salamanca. The incentive for the teams in Group A2 is that any of them, if they pass the qualifying round scheduled for the end of January, can be regional champions.

The six teams in Group A2 will play a two-round league, after which the knockout stages will take place, in which the first-placed team will face the sixth-placed team in Group A1, the second-placed team will face the fifth-placed team, the third-placed team will face the fourth-placed team, and so on. In this knockout stage, which will be played on both legs, the second match will be played on the court of the best-placed team. The six winners of the knockout stages will play a new league from February, in which the top four will advance to a Final Phase that will crown the different champions of Castilla y León and will award the tickets for the Spanish Championship in each of the categories. The women’s teams of Club Soria Baloncesto will continue next season in the Second Division Regional Championships in the different categories.
