The summer holidays mark the end of the kindergarten year in kindergartens in Lower Saxony. The Protestant kindergarten “Im Stocken” in Tostedt will soon be going on its three-week summer break, and the new school-age children will be saying goodbye to the kindergartens. The kindergarten managers Janika Bartels and Nicole Fischer are taking this opportunity to look back on the past twelve months: “It’s always nice to see how the children are getting bigger and more independent,” says Janika Bartels. “Now the older children are going to school, and after the summer holidays a new group will start with us. We are happy for the children that they are now ready for a new phase in their lives.”
An important milestone in this daycare year was the recertification with the quality seal of the Federal Association of Protestant Daycare Centers for Children (BETA), which took place at the end of 2023. The team recently celebrated the completion. “In the certification process, the processes in educational work, cooperation with parents and child protection issues, for example, are assessed,” explains Martina Sander, quality management officer in the Hittfeld Protestant Daycare Association. The specifications are reviewed at regular intervals and adjusted if necessary.
From September to June, the children completed safety training. “The children were made aware of the need to be alert in life,” says Nicole Fischer. An external trainer came to the daycare center once a week for this purpose. “In a playful way, but without forgetting the seriousness of the matter, they learned how to recognize and avoid dangerous situations – or, if there is no other option, how to behave in dangerous situations.”
Janika Bartels says she is particularly happy about the staffing situation, especially in light of the current skilled labor situation: “Our team is almost complete and has remained stable. This is a great advantage for the children and of course makes working much more pleasant for us too. We are all looking forward to the summer break so that we can really get going again and support the children as they grow.”
