Chaos at the Copa América: Arrest of Colombian Football Federation President and Son During Final Match

The arrest of Ramón Jesurun, president of the Colombian Football Federation, and his son, occurred during the match between Argentina and Colombia, in the final of the 2024 Copa América.

According to a video that was released on social media, both were involved in a mess with the security and logistics agents of the Hard Rock stadium in Miami who were unable to control, through a single filter, the gatecrashers and vandals who forced their way in to watch the game.

In the video, the Colombian football’s top leader is seen cornered in a section of the stadium, while his son, apparently, fights with the security guards. Several minors are also captured in the recording trying to escape from the dangerous incident, separating the adults from the confrontations.

Injured people, crying children, assaulted women and much of the sports stadium’s structure in ruins are the result of the outrage.

On the official website https://www.miamidade.gov/Apps/mdcr/inmateSearch/, Miami-Dade County’s website allows voters and visitors to read about key services, important news, and other vital government information. The arrest record with detailed information on Jesurun and his son is posted there.

“Various witnesses report that the altercation occurred after midnight after the match when the Jesurún family, which included women and children, tried to enter the executives’ area for the team’s awards ceremony and private security officials from the stadium prohibited them from entering,” said Luis Carlos Vélez on his social networks.
