Citadins Badminton Team Shines at Provincial Championship, Winning Six Medals

The Citadins badminton team won six medals at the Provincial Mixed Team and Individual 4-4 Championship, the last tournament of the season, which took place from March 10 to 12 in Sherbrooke.

The Citadins won the silver medal in the mixed team event. After a 3-0 victory over the Université Laval Rouge et Or in the semi-final, François Bourret’s team lost in the final to the Université de Montréal Carabins. “Even though we wanted to win gold, I’m extremely proud of the entire team, who fought until the end,” said the head coach.

In the individual competition, Francis Dubé and Justin Ostiguy won the gold medal by defeating the best duos from the Carabins and the Rouge et Or. “Francis, who was playing his last match with our team since he is finishing his studies, had an exceptional university career,” commented François Bourret.

The team won two silver medals: Alexandra Bélanger in women’s singles and the pair of Catherine Plante-Gonthier and Haley Hu in women’s doubles. Benoit Bordeleau (men’s singles) and the duo of Benoit Bordeleau and Catherine Plante-Gonthier (mixed doubles) also won the bronze medal.
