Cleveland Cavaliers Lock in Donovan Mitchell with $150.3 Million Contract Extension

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell has agreed to a three-year, $150.3 million maximum contract extension, including a player option through the 2027-28 season.

This agreement allows the Cavaliers to obtain stability towards their franchise player who is now under contract for several seasons.

For Mitchell, that gets him a four-year, $185 million guaranteed contract. He’ll also have the chance to get the 10 years of service time that will allow him to extend his contract for another five years at $380 million in 2027.

Since acquiring Mitchell from the Utah Jazz at the trade deadline two years ago, the Cavaliers have made back-to-back playoff appearances and reached the conference semifinals last season.

Mitchell had a combined 89 points in Games 6 and 7 of the first round to help the Cavaliers eliminate the Orlando Magic.

The 27-year-old, who was selected to the NBA All-Star Game for five consecutive seasons, averaged 26.6 points per game in 2023-24, joining LeBron James as the only player in the franchise to have reached that plateau for more than one season.

Mitchell is also the only guard to average at least 20 points per game in his first seven NBA seasons since Allen Iverson.
