Cuban Judoka Dayle Ojeda Defects in France Ahead of Paris Olympic Games

Judoka Dayle Ojeda left the Cuban delegation that traveled to France to participate in the Paris Olympic Games.

The 30-year-old athlete traveled to the French capital to support the preparation of Olympic champion Idalis Ortiz (+78 kg), but did not take the flight back to the island last Wednesday.

“He did not return,” a source close to the national judo team confirmed to Martí Noticias, asking not to be identified for fear of reprisals.

Although Ojeda was not going to compete in the games, he had been in France for several weeks with other athletes and technical support staff for the Cuban delegation.

The information about the withdrawal of the Havana judoka had appeared this Friday in CubaliteThe digital portal took as a source Pedro Chacón, a Cuban judo coach based in Jamaica.

“Dayle was in France helping Idalys, the top figure in the +78 kg division, with her training. When she returned to Cuba, along with other judokas who performed the same function as her, she decided to abandon the training camp,” the report states.

At the time of writing, the whereabouts of Dayle Ojeda were unknown. The Cuban official media have not reported the news either.

The page The International Judo Federation (IJF) has recorded as its last official result Dayle Ojeda’s second place at the Varadero Open, a Pan American event held in Cuba last April.
