Daria Kasatkina Dominates Yuriko Miyazaki with Express Victory at Wimbledon

It was important not to be late on court 18 on Thursday. Daria Kasatkina and Yuriko Miyazaki were due to meet at around 11am local time to play their second round match. Including the warm-up, it was not yet noon when the match ended. Exactly 50 minutes of play and an express victory, 6-0, 6-0 for the Russian. Tough for the 28-year-old Briton, who lived through every player’s nightmare, especially in front of her home crowd.

Kasatkina is in full swing since she has just won the title on the grass at Eastbourne. Ranked 12th in the world, she is playing one of her best seasons at 27 (already four finals since the beginning of the year) but she was knocked out in the second round in Melbourne and Paris in the Grand Slam and hopes to do much better here at Wimbledon. On Thursday, she only lost 19 points in total in 12 games, notably tormenting poor Miyazaki on her second serve (2 won out of 17, a meager 12%).

Daria Kasatkina started the match with a bang, winning the first 11 points. She only lost six in the entire first set. The second act was a little more “tight”, even if that term is hardly appropriate. But Miyazaki, ranked 133rd in the WTA rankings, more than doubled her number of points won (13). At 2-0, she won her only game point, in vain. Her ordeal ended with a final error, on the third match point, at the end of one of the longest rallies of the game.
