Darius Garland Shuts Down Trade Rumors: Spurs Still Pursuing Other Targets

While the Spurs still have several targets on the market, a leader has just spoken out following numerous rumors. The Texans and other teams are warned.

Despite the arrivals of Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes, the Spurs continue to probe the market in search of new arrivals. We are thinking about potential veterans, or a trade to significantly improve the quality of the roster. In recent weeks, the names of Brandon Ingram and Lauri Markkanen have been targeted a few times.

One less target for Spurs?

Even though CP3 arrived as a free agent, some fans were excited about the potential addition of Darius Garland from the Cavaliers. A do-it-all point guard who could have formed a promising duo with Victor Wembanyama. But in the face of the rumors, Garland wanted to clear the air publicly.

The reason given behind this possible departure? His association with Donovan Mitchell, not so perfect according to some insiders. The Spurs did indeed discuss with the Cavaliers for his arrival, but the franchise never wanted to give in during the negotiations. For Garland in any case, there is no question of leaving Ohio where he feels good.

His arrival remains unlikely this summer, but not impossible in the future either. With Chris Paul having signed for one year, the Texans may restart negotiations for Garland before long.
