Darren Aurrus/Bernadine Wardana Finish as Runners-Up in 2024 BNI Badminton Asian Junior Championship

YOGYAKARTA – Mixed doubles team Darren Aurrus/Bernadine Anindya Wardana must be pleased to be the runners-up of the 2024 BNI Badminton Asian Junior Championship (BAJC) after being defeated by Chinese doubles team Lin Xiang Yi/Liu Yuan Yuan.

Playing in the BAJC 2024 final at GOR Amongrogo, Yogyakarta on Sunday 7th July, Darren/Bernadine dropped two straight games with a score of 12-21, 13-21, 13-21, to China.

In the final match of BAJC 2024, Darren/Bernadine could not balance the Chinese game that played on the attack since the beginning of the match. In addition, Darren/Bernadine finally had to give up two consecutive games in this match in 33 minutes.

“The opponent is superior, we have to evaluate and later if we meet we can counter a defeat,” said Darren.

“The opponents don’t want to lose, they fight, this is the match we lost. The conditions are sufficient,” said Bernadine.

This result meant Darren/Bernadine missed out on following the Leo Rolly Carnando/Indah Cahya Sari Jamil pairing who had previously succeeded at the 2019 AJC event in China.

At that time, at the Suzhou Olympic Sports Center, Leo/Indah who appeared in the BAJC final became champion after defeating the Chinese representative, Feng Yan Zhen/Lin Fang Ling with a score of 16-21, 22-20, 22-20, 22-20.

“We have to train even harder so that in the future we can achieve better results. Raihan in this tournament certainly does not make us satisfied. There are still titles that we have to achieve,” Darren said.

From Chinese, Lin Xian Yi/Lu Yuan Yuan said that they were happy to win the title and make it five titles at the 2024 Badminton Asia Championships. For both of them, the title in front of the student city crowd is the result of their two hard work during their training.

“The 2024 Asian Junior Badminton Championship is after our training so far. We are definitely happy, I hope this action can motivate us,” Lin said.

With this result, China has won five titles in the 2024 BNI Badminton Asian Junior Championship tournament. In addition to Lin/Lu, other badminton titles were won by Hu Zhe An (the last son), Xu Wen Jing (the last son), Hu Ke Yuan/Lin Xian Yi (the last son from Indonesia) and Chen Fan Shu Tian/Liu Jia Yue (the last man from Indonesia).

Hu climbed to the top of the podium after defeating South Korean representative Yoon Ho Seong with a score of 13-21, 21-14, 21-14. In the women’s singles division, Xu Wen Jing won after defeating her compatriot, Yin Yi Qing in two straight games 21-13, 21-15.

Meanwhile, in the men’s doubles sector, Hu Ke Yuan/Lin Xian Yi succeeded after defeating Malaysian pair, Kang Khai Xing/Aaron Tai open game 21-13, 21-11. As for the women’s doubles sector, Chen Fan Shu Tian/Lu Jia Yue defeated South Korean pair, Kim Min Ji/Yeon Seo Yeon in a two-game battle 21-11, 21-15.
