De Siervo: ‘Leagues appeal against FIFA on Club World Cup’ – Football

“There is a decision by the European leagues, not just ours. The whole context is in fibrillation, but there is nothing against an institution but only an attempt to participate in the decision-making process and in a change”.

Serie A CEO Luigi De Siervo said this on the sidelines of compiling the calendar for next season, confirming Serie A’s appeal, along with the other European leagues, against FIFA for the Club World Cup which will increase the number of matches.

“When FIFA and UEFA can impose new dates, they actually compress the activity of the leagues and clubs,” he added. “There is concern about the explosion of matches that our teams will have to play. We saw how tired our players were at the European Championship. We managed to miraculously insert just one midweek round, but sacrificing the winter break.”

De Siervo then concludes with a new feature on this year’s calendar: “Even on the penultimate day, the teams that will play for the same objective will be contemporaneous.”
