Dedicated Judoka Nathalie Chereau to Carry Olympic Flame: A Story of Passion and Inclusion

Nathalie Chereau will carry the Olympic Flame. Here is her story:

Nathalie is a dedicated judoka who has contributed to the development of her sport for over 20 years and works as a volunteer to promote team spirit and inclusion, particularly in parasport. Always concerned about the well-being of others, she has put the collective interest above her own from the beginning. A 4th dan black belt, Nathalie began practicing judo in 2000. Committed and passionate, she has been the club’s treasurer since 2002 and its president since 2015.

As an assistant professor, she transmits the values of judo on a daily basis and also acts as a trainer for the sports commission of her department. Under her leadership, the club has trained more than 80 black belts (including a 6th dan), as well as many referees and commissioners. It is also thanks to Nathalie that the club launched a disabled sports section, which has given birth to talents such as Marie Robert, vice-world champion in judo at the Deaflympics, and Manon Cellier, double gold medalist at the European Youth Paralympic Games.

For Nathalie, sport is a way to help others flourish and to develop personally, while also being a great catalyst for encounters. It was also at her club that Nathalie met her partner, continental referee Corine Basmaison. Entrusting her with the role of Olympic Flame Bearer embodies the spirit of the slogan “opening the Games wide”.
