Defending Champion Carlos Alcaraz to Face Daniil Medvedev in Wimbledon Semifinals

Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz will face Daniil Medvedev in the Wimbledon semifinals today in a repeat of last year’s semifinal match (from 2:30 p.m. in the LIVE ticker >>>).

So far, both athletes have delivered a strong performance at the third Grand Slam tournament of the year. Medvedev (ATP No. 5) recently defeated title favorite Jannik Sinner (ATP No. 1) in five sets and had previously been successful against Jan-Lennard Struff and Alexandre Müller, among others. In the round of 16 against Grigor Dimitrov, he benefited from the Bulgarian’s retirement.

Alcaraz (ATP No. 3) won his quarter-final match against the in-form American Tommy Paul (ATP No. 13), having previously eliminated two tough opponents in Frances Tiafoe and Ugo Humbert. After his defeat to Jack Draper in the preparation tournament at the Queen’s Club, it seems as if the 21-year-old has found his form in time.

Possible final against Djokovic

The Spaniard wants to repeat his success from last year against Medvedev, when he also defeated his Russian opponent in the semifinals in three sets, laying the foundation for his first Grand Slam victory on grass. The winner of the match would face either Novak Djokovic (ATP No. 2) or Lorenzo Musetti (ATP No. 25) in the final.

These players made the jump to ATP number 1
