Dennis Schröder was born on September 15, 1993 in Braunschweig, Lower Saxony. Schröder began playing basketball competitively at the age of eleven after he was discovered by basketball coach Liviu Călin on an open court near Braunschweig’s Prinzenpark and invited to a basketball training session. His path was not straightforward at first; Schröder was rebellious, said Călin. When he was 16, Schröder’s father Axel died of a heart attack, after which he changed his previous training attitude because he had promised his father that he would make it to the NBA. This dream came true on June 28, 2013, when Schröder was picked in the draft by the Atlanta Hawks. Today he plays point guard for the Brooklyn Nets.
