Deportivo assures that it will not put “the sustainability of the club at risk” due to the World Cup “adventure”

MADRID, 20 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

RC Deportivo did not attend the presentation of the project for A Coruña to host the 2030 World Cup on Saturday, and has assured that it will not “put the sustainability of the club at risk” due to the World Cup “adventure”, in which it has “never” been “participant” nor “consulted”.

“Among RC Deportivo’s objectives is to have a UEFA category 4 stadium when the time comes to play in European competitions. But neither the club nor its shareholders are willing to put the club’s sustainability at risk to respond to an adventure in which they have never participated nor have they been consulted to be part of it,” said the Galician club.

In this regard, he stressed that the club “has never participated in or received any information about the negotiations carried out by the different bodies regarding this event.” “RC Deportivo is committed to always doing what is best for the city and for Deportivo; however, it understands that this modus operandi on the part of the Council is neither institutional nor pertinent. Therefore, it urges the authorities to move towards a dialogue based on mutual respect, in a serious, professional and public manner, for the good of the city and the club,” he said.

He also stressed that the decision “has not taken into account the priorities of the fans or the sustainability of the club.” “RC Deportivo is committed to making the necessary investments in the ABanca-Riazor stadium in a progressive manner to ensure that it is a model among the sports facilities of the First and Second Division, but always in accordance with the needs of the team,” he stressed.

“RC Deportivo’s priority is to maintain the ABanca-Riazor stadium with a capacity of 32,471 seats, in line with the size of our season ticket holders and to ensure the necessary budget to build our squads and the investments destined for the development and growth of the club,” he added, also ensuring that it will undertake “prudently” the necessary improvements, always in accordance with the provisions of the lease agreement signed with the City Council.

Regarding the absence from the event on Saturday, the club justified it by referring to the short notice given. “The schedules of our institutional representatives prevented us from attending the event due to the short notice, since our protocol officer received the invitation from Mayor Inés Rey this past Friday afternoon, more precisely at 17:24 hours. Only a few minutes before, Vice President Michelle Clemente and the CEO had been informed on their phones, via WhatsApp,” he concluded.
