Detroit Pistons Hire Former Cavs Coach JB Bickerstaff as New Head Coach

According to US media reports, the Detroit Pistons have found a new head coach. Former Cavs coach JB Bickerstaff is set to take over the young team.

JB Bickerstaff was employed by the Cleveland Cavaliers for four and a half years, and he led the Cavs to the playoffs in the last two seasons. However, his tenure as head coach of the Cavs ended a few weeks ago after Cleveland was eliminated in the second round of the playoffs by eventual champions Boston (1-4). Now he has found a new employer.

According to information from ESPN The 45-year-old will be the new head coach of the Detroit Pistons, succeeding Monty Williams, who was fired after just one year in office. This completes the personnel restructuring at the Pistons for now. Trajan Langdon has been in charge as the new team president since this summer.

The Pistons are coming off the worst season in their franchise history; last season, the team from the Motor City won just 14 of their 82 games. However, the worst record in the NBA still only led to the fifth pick in the draft.

With this, the Pistons selected forward Ron Holland, who, together with Cade Cunningham – number 1 pick of 2021 -, Jaden Ivey, Ausar Thompson and Jalen Duren, will lead Detroit back into a rosy future. With Bickerstaff as the new head coach on the sidelines.

For Bickerstaff, this is his fourth position as a head coach in the NBA. Before the Cavs, he also worked as the main coach on the bench for the Memphis Grizzlies and Houston Rockets.
