Dominican Republic Dominates in Pre-Olympic Basketball Tournament Opener

The Pre-Olympic Basketball Tournament that will award four tickets to Paris 2024 began this morning and the Dominican Republic, the team led by Néstor García, achieved a clear victory.

Che Guevara’s men beat Egypt 90 to 77 in the group being played in Piraeus, Greece, which in addition to the home team includes Slovenia, Croatia and New Zealand.

Although they fell in the 1C (16-22), the Dominicans came out more focused in the second quarter, winning 27 to 9 and, from then on, they dominated the match that was played at the Peace and Friendship Stadium in Greece.

Jean Montero, with 17 points and 4 assists, Ángel Núñez, who contributed 11 points and 9 rebounds, and Chris Duarte, who added 14 points, were the stars of the team led by the player from Bahía Blanca. Meanwhile, Ahmed Metwaly, with 24 points, was the top scorer for Egypt and the game.
