Donovan Mitchell extends his contract for three years in Cleveland

Donovan Mitchell believes in the new project presented to him by Cleveland. Arriving in 2022 in Ohio, the 27-year-old guard has extended his contract for three years and $150.3 million with the Cavaliers, ESPN revealed on Tuesday. His previous contract ended during the offseason.

“Every day, you hear: ‘He wants to do this’, ‘He’s going to go there’. I don’t understand … but, it’s funny. I’m relieved that it’s over. Now, we have to focus on what’s next,” he said in a video posted on his Instagram account. Eliminated in the first round of the playoffs, Cleveland notably changed coaches during the offseason, replacing JB Bickerstaff with Kenny Atkinson.

Mitchell has an option on the third year of his new contract, which will be effective during the 2027-2028 season. A short-term commitment that could allow him to sign a new max contract at age 30.
